SOI
This brief is
asking me to create an entertainment music magazine.
The magazine I am creating
is about hip-hop. The name of my magazine is ‘HOP’.
The content of my
production will have a front cover which will include themes that you will see
on a regular magazine. In the magazine, there will be an exclusive ‘question and
answer’ with an upcoming hip-hop duo from Britain called ‘DNA’. From my audience research, the most popular choice was a Q&A.
This will be beside a few pictures of the artists and will show the reader what
the artists are all about. The camera angle I will use on my front cover is a long shot, to show the
reader the clothes and more of the setting to display the cover star’s clothes
and show the graffiti wall setting. The selected setting contributes to the
stereotype of hip-hop artists as it is in an urban area with graffiti walls. In my double page spread I will have a range of different shot types.
The mode of address will be informal as this will appeal to my teenage audience.
I
aim to construct stereotypes of these artists by reinforcing the
representations of clothes, shoes and props that hip-hop stars wear. However, I
aim to challenge hip-hop stereotypes by having a more relaxed expression on the
stars’ face, because the way many hip-hop artists are portrayed in media
products, has them display angry, aggressive or a serious attitude looking into
the lens.
This will all hopefully appeal to my target audience of both genders
gender 14-18, as teenagers in my opinion would be better suited to the laid
back approach I’m trying to create.
